The festival is a conduit to continued learning about jazz. Open to the public, Shazz 101 and the Master Class are held between the student performances and the Finale Concert. World-renowned guest artists, professional musicians, and guest adjudicators share their expertise and educate students, directors, and community members on different elements of music and performance.

Heid music proudly presents SHAZZ 101. This unique to the Shawano Jazz Festival opportunity directed by trombonist Bill Dennee of the band Big Mouth & The Power Tool Horns, allows our participants to work with one of the festival's professional musicians. They will dig deeper into improv techniques and the importance of the rhythm section. SHAZZ 101 concludes with a short concert where the bands will showcase their improved chart. Bring your cameras!  This concert always brings out the best. SHAZZ 101 is free and open to the public.

The guest artist Master Class is an interactive, informational education experience for our participating high school students and directors. It is lead by our headliner artist(s), and offers a great learning opportunity and interaction. The class is held in the auditorium between the student performances and the Finale Concert.
